Broadway session

Last Friday, we study in Broadway for a whole day, it is the first session in Broadway session. Paul and Roger teach us many knowledges in that day.  Firstly, Paul tell everyone need to produce a short movie in the finial time. the short movie need 3-5 mins, 2x actors and 1x location. For Roger, firstly, he need us to introduction individually, every one need reopen the door and than introduce myself to other people. It is a good way to relax. Secondly, Roger teaches us about camera and mic. Finally, we do some interviews. in the everyone interviews, we need do different jobs. In the interview, i learn how to control camera, especially know how to composition the image. it is very useful in my production.

In the Afternoon, we watched a film called "Room", It was broadcasted in 2015, the director is Lenny Abrahamson and Writer is Emma Donoghue. The story is talk about After five-year-old Jack and his mother escape from the enclosed surroundings that Jack has known his entire life, the boy makes a thrilling discovery. It is a good film, especially the son helps his mother to get freedom. In the first part, the film shows although they don't have much space, they have enough time. the second part shows they have enough space, but they don't have much time.

This week , i do some research about director James Burrows

James Burrows was born on December 30, 1940 in Los Angeles, California, USA as James Edward Burrows. He is a director and producer, known for Will & Grace (1998), Taxi(1978) and Mike & Molly (2010). He has been married toDebbie Easton since 1997. 

The reseason why i research about him is that in 1994 to 1998, he directed 15 episodes in Friends.

Interview question

This week i watched one season of sitcom "Vicious", it is a British sitcom and it is very famous in china. Because the series stars Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi as Freddie and Stuart, an elderly gay couple who have been together for 50 years but endure a love/hate relationship. The series premiered on 29 April 2013 and garnered 5.78 million viewers.

Nowadays, many Chinese audience watch american situation comedy. in fact,some audience don't know english, even a few of audiences never learn english before. they just watch subtitle and body languages. So that translation is very important in situation comedy.

more and more professors focus on translation in humor, but there is no breakthrough. Attardo said“the existing approaches to humor translation incorporate a theory

of translation and apply it to humor.

Salvatore Attardo is a full professor at Texas A&M University–Commerce and the editor-in-chief of Humor, the journal for the International Society of Humor Research.^[2] He studied at Purdue University under Victor Raskin and extended Raskin's script-based semantic theory of humor (SSTH) into the general theory of verbal humor (GTVH). He publishes in the field of humor in literature and is considered to be one of the top authorities in the area.

General Theory of Verbal Humor is the most famous theory in human language, in this theory, Attardo state six issues in humor

In this term , i learn how to use camera and how to edit video, my project is not good, so ,in next term, i will continue to practice my editing skills

situation comedy analysis

Last week, I posted a questionnaire on the website, it is talk about Chinese situation comedy and American situation comedy. The object is Chinese audience.Now, there are twenty-three subjects give me answers. So today I want to analysis these data.

The first one question is compare Chinese situation and American situation comedy. 12 subjects choice Chinese situation comedy better, 11 subjects choice American situation comedy better. It means that in recent year, Chinese situation comedy is better than before, because ten years before, many Chinese audiences prefer to watch American situation comedy, rather than Chinese situation comedy.

The second question is the best section in Chinese situation comedy, and the options are a script, dialogue, character, narrative, plot. Eight subjects select dialogue and character. Because, in Chinese situation comedy, dialogue and character own Chinese characteristics, and Chinese audience understand those easily.

The third question is the worse section in Chinese situation comedy, and the options are a script, dialogue, character, narrative, plot. Eight subjects select plot. Because, in traditional Chinese situation comedy, there is the single plot, normally talks about family, friends, love. It is easy to understand the script, but sometimes audience feels a little boring.

The fourth question is the best section in American situation comedy; Seven subjects select plot. Because, in the American situation comedy,  the plot is diversification. For example, Modern Family, some plots are talk about family, some plots are talk about friends, some plots are speak of love.

The fifth question is the worse section in American situation comedy. Ten objects select narrative. Because normally Chinese situation comedy is Single-line narrative and narrative structure of each set is similar. Chinese audiences like single-line narrative, because every set is a Full story， it include beginning developing，climax and ending.In another aspect, American situation like using Multi-line narrative. There are many story line in one set. So it makes a little difficult to understand the story.
